An intriguing introduction to a period of U.S. history, the McCarthy era, not often addressed in juvenile fiction. During this time many average citizens and even celebrities were suspected of being Communist sympathizers. Pete's father is one of those suspects and it is Pete's goal to unravel the truth behind those suspicions. Political beliefs had torn the Collison family apart once. Was it about to happen again?

I won this book through a GoodReads contest. It took me a couple goes to get into this book. It was not a difficult read. I haven't read anything about this topic. It was interesting to learn at the end of the book how much of it was true to Avi's life. Not the best book, not the worst. A great way to introduce historical fiction to younger individuals.
