Well written review of the background of the Apollo 8 mission to the moon, the personalities involved, and the actual trip. Could be the most definitive book on the mission.

Well written and makes a great companion to Apollo 13 by the same author. If you are a space buff the jargon will not intimidate you. Apollo 8 was a landmark mission which was overshadowed by Apollo 11 and Apollo 13.

I was in kindergarten when this mission took place but the Apollo missions are still keen in my mind as some of my earliest memories. This book enabled me to better appreciate those missions and the people involved in making them a success. Quickly paced with loads of detail (but not overly technical), this book should delight space buffs and and fans of human adventure alike.

From the Author's Note, Kluger cites the following as helpful sources and interesting reads themselves:

- Countdown by Frank Borman
- A Man on the Moon by Andrew Chaikin
- Rockets and People by Boris Chertok
- Carrying the Fire by Michael Collins
- Flight by Chris Kraft
- Failure is Not an Option by Gene Kranz
- Genesis by Robert Zimmerman
- Apollo 8 by NASA (official mission reports)
