This is a beautifully conceived picture book in which Debi Gliori describes and illustrates things you might see over the course of a day in the Hebrides. Inspired by the landscape, seascape, weather, animals and birds, this is not simply an exquisite alphabet book, but also a wonderful celebration of some of the most magnificent scenery in Britain.

A really good picture book can be really evocative of an extremely specific place without much text, and this is indeed a really good picture book. I loved this! It's such a gorgeous portrait of Scotland's western archipelago (it doesn't get more specific than "Hebridean", meaning it could be Skye, Iona, or any number of other options), with absolutely beautiful artwork and lots of fun Scottish vocabulary that parents and caregivers can have fun talking to their kids about. It reminded me a bit of this year's (excellent, but a bit heavy) "Town is by the Sea" by Joanne Schwartz, which painted a similarly vivid portrait of a mining town in Nova Scotia. This title is lighter than Schwartz's, though, and therefore makes for somewhat more carefree reading. I loved this one a lot.
