"You're home making dinner for your husband. You expect him any second. The phone rings--it's the call you hoped you'd never get. You jump in your car and race to a neighborhood you thought you'd never visit. You peer into the dark, deserted building. You brace yourself for the worst. And then, you remember nothing else. They tell your husband you've been in an accident. You lost control of your car as you sped through the worst side of town. The police suspect you were up to no good. But your husband refuses to believe it. Your best friend is not so sure. And even you don't know what to believe"-- Provided by publisher

“How well do you know your partner? “ This is the premise for Shari Lapena’s new psychological thriller, A Stranger in the House. The novel is characterized by a well developed, ever evolving plot, full of twists and turns, that relates the story of a wife who has no memory of a murder, and a husband who, surprisingly, seems to have even less knowledge of his wife. Solidly written in terms of plot, but somewhat under developed in characterization, this is one for devotees of anything labelled psychological thriller. I did not find it as engaging as Ms Lapena’s debut novel, The Couple Next Door.
irritating -- I dislike stories based on characters making bad decisions to not communicate to others, including people they purportedly love. No character was believable or engaging. I'm not sure why I finished it -- from the mid point I skimmed quickly to the end -- when there are so many good books to be read. Creepy, and not in a good way.
This was an okay read and one that makes you want to continue to read to find out who is guilty. It sort of see-saws back and forth between “maybe this person is guilty, or maybe they’re innocent. No, they’re guilty, unless.......”
I actually liked this book better than “The Couple Next Door” as I thought that was much more predictable
An easy read, didn't expect the ending. Not expected because of the thoughts of the character through the book.
This thriller started off well. The ending just didn’t make sense as the character had been offering us a glimpse into her thinking Throughout. Did I miss something? Or is this just an amateurish way of adding a twist in a predictable thriller?
The best thing about this book is that it's a quick read. Otherwise, the "twists" are very predictable and even after finishing the story, I kept wondering why it was billed as a suspenseful book. And did anyone else want Brigid's husband to be involved somehow? He didn't even seem to belong in the book!
Weird book. Frustrating read. I gave up on it half way through. I could go on at length about what is wrong with this book but I think it comes down a couple of things. She is not that good a writer. Her characters not well developed.
A fast, easy read but totally predictable.
Her 1st few books, were page turners. This 1 was totally predictable.
