The homesteading parts of this book are very interesting, and definitely something I didn't know much about before reading this book. I felt like I knew the animals by the end of the book. Jennifer McGaha also does a wonderful job of describing the cabin and beautiful mountain setting. However, it was hard to get past her lack of personal responsibility, and the feeling at times that she still doesn't get it. Even after they lose everything and owe a lot of money, she sends her kid to private school because she figures what's a few thousand dollars more. Her kid also has a room stocked with expensive filmmaking equipment. She complains about not being able to get a job, yet won't even apply to some because she's doesn't want a job where she has to be detail-oriented. The only reason she finally gets a full-time job is because she wants to move away for awhile. She also acts like she regrets not paying attention to finances, but I just find it very, very hard to believe that she was that clueless. She had to be complicit in this. Nobody repeatedly has their power turned off, their car repossessed, and takes out a third mortgage without realizing they have money problems. Also, the title is factually wrong. At no point in the book do they have only two goats.
