"Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn't so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dads business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind? With Maurene Goo's signature warmth and humor, The Way You Make Me Feel is a relatable story of falling in love and finding yourself in the places youd never thought to look"--Provided by publisher.

Charming and funny, with a heroine who is a (very mild) dirtbag in the best possible way, a nice developing friendship, and a sweet romance. Parent-child relationships are the heart of this book, and I loved the dynamic between Clara and her father, which delivers believable tensions while so clearly showing their love for each other. It’s predictable in many ways and doesn’t dive as deep into its characters’ inner lives as I would’ve liked. But with an interesting cast and some genuine surprises, it made me feel very happy.

I love each of Maurene Goo's books more than the last! Not only does is this book filled with a realistically diverse cast of characters and lovely slice-of-LA-life details, it addresses emotional intelligence. Why does it seem cool to be detached and bored? How well does cynicism serve when true connection requires vulnerability? The changing relationships in the book, whether romantic, friendly, or familial, are all well-explored through this lens. See also: Siobahn Vivian's The Last Boy and Girl in the World.
