Fans who loved Divergent will certainly love this one, too, and readers who aren't familiar with Roth's YA novels will be attracted by her trademark dark explorations of character psychology and big ideas in the midst of nefarious conspiracies and action-packed adventure.

I enjoyed the book overall, but there were some yawner moments. I really started liking it at part 2. It took that long for the story to get interesting. After that, though, it was pretty good. Warning - there is a lot of bad language in this book. Not appropriate for young teens.

I didn't think I'd like Sloan, but the depth of what she was struggling to come to terms with made her a compelling character. When life takes an unexpected turn, the skills she learned as a hero come in handy and as she trusts herself, she makes unexpected but needed decisions.

This book follows five young people that ten years ago were identified as Chosen Ones and sent to defeat The Dark One. They were able to defeat the Dark One and save their world. Now the Chosen Ones are treated like celebrities and are trying to move on with their lives. We follow Sloane, who's character really builds up this book, who is suffering from her memories and is having a really hard time dealing and being who the world wants her to be. Sloane has always had a really good gut instinct for things and after feeling at unease for awhile one of this worst things since The Dark One happens to their group they get launched into a new and unwanted adventure. This book provided adventure, magic, cool bad guys and some world building creating an overall pretty cool story. I look forward to checking out the sequel when it's released.

I loved Roth’s Divergent series for young adults, but this adult book left me unimpressed. It’s clear she loves Chicago and its architecture, but it takes so long for this story to get moving. I also bet there are a lot of complaints about curse words—well, people wake up, if you’re worried about what will hurt your young adults’ ears, they already know these words are probably using them. I don’t see how this book earned the publicity it did. Was it just because of her previously written high energy, attention grabbing books?

Chosen Ones is a dark sci-fi/fantasy chimera of brokenness and impossible wants, anger and pain, mercy and healing. The premise of this story is compelling in its uniqueness: what happens to the teens who saved the world after the world is saved? How do they live their lives in the spotlight while struggling to overcome the trauma of what they experienced? And what happens when it becomes clear that the world needs saving once again?

This story begins where most end, and I was sold from the moment I read the description. The psychological landscape of these heroes' lives is the forefront of the story, but the real gem of the writing is the world-building. Absolutely believable and effortlessly woven in. When the plot twists and turns, you're swept along for the ride without a second thought.
