Reviewers for Ward Just’s last book ‘The Eastern Shore’ mention that ‘Echo House’ is considered his masterpiece, nominated as a National Book Award Finalist for Fiction (1997). It’s a political saga of three generations of Behl family, Washington insiders, who occupy Echo House in Washington, DC, in a timespan covering several decades of the 20th century.

Sumptuous prose, wonderful characterizations, low on plot, which I’m beginning to assume is his style. Third book of his for me. Certainly good political reading.
