As a student of chemistry, I believe it is ideal to read (2) textbooks side-by-side in order to avoid uncertainty when learning new material. This book provides excellent support to any introductory chemistry book. My preference is to read THIS book first, then refer to the in-depth chemistry text for a more close examination. This textbook is far more accessible to the layperson, allowing the broad concepts to be learned first, and then refined and clarified using a more detailed text. I would not recommend this text as a refresher course in General Chemistry, as it is lacking in pertinent information necessary to challenge a course covering the same subject matter.
