* Interesting premise: a teenage girl struggles to fit in at her evangelical church because she believes in evolution, likes Harry Potter, and eschews the idea of blind faith. She finally discovers a colorful group of friends and a community that she can fit into...at a weekend-long grand opening party for a donut shop. * Emma, the main character, is original, three-dimensional, and spunky. * I like reading about characters' wardrobe choices. Emma wears Eighties rock band t-shirts from secondhand shops, and I think that's cool. * The story takes place in Minnesota. Granted, it's an overly-Minnesotan Minnesota, with fictionalized place names like Lady Slipper State Park and the Loon Willow Mall, but that amused me. Please pass the pop.
