Tony DiTerlizzi has created yet another fascinating world for readers to explore in The Search for Wondla. This world is filled with monstrous creatures that wander aimlessly like a walking forest, others that lurk under sand and dirt waiting patiently for lunch to come along. There are robots of all sizes and plants that eat birds and little girls if given the chance. It's a world teeming with life and excitement and danger. This is the world that Eva Nine is tossed into after the destruction of her enclosed, protected underground habitat. Eva Nine is the only human as far as she knows. She lives with a robot caretaker who feeds and educates her and keeps her safe until the day the marauder comes hunting for unique specimens for a museum of oddities. Eva Nine is definitely odd as the only human around. Once she's out in the wide and wild world she and her robot discover that all the information they had about surviving on the surface of the earth seems to be completely wrong. With the help of some of the nicer (sort of) creatures Eva takes a journey of discovery that takes her places she never dreamed of in search of others like herself. True to form DiTerlizzi has given his readers a page turning, nonstop action story full of unique and often terrifying characters and places. It is a book that was brought to my attention by six different kids who thought it was the best book ever and said I had to read it. They were right! It also has an online component (requiring a webcam) that is pretty cool and adds dimensions to the story that the book doesn't have. Jump in and hang on!
