Pancakes in Paris

Living the American Dream in France

A sweet, well-written, good-natured, lovely memoir about a love affair with food and Paris, and about going after your dreams. This is a tale of the trials and tribulations of Carlson's dream of opening a diner in the city of love. This was wonderfully engaging; it made me smile, it made me laugh, it made me want to go back to Paris, it made me want to eat large quantities of pancakes. Craig is an endearing writer and character - it's clear he had his rough times, in his childhood and also in Paris, but he chooses to gloss over those and focus on the absurd, and his achievements, instead. From how hard it is to get a loan in France, to the wine and beer Mafia, to electricians who show up sporadically, to not being able to find proper bacon.... Craig describes all of his ups and downs while attempting to fulfil his dream. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this memoir, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!
