The American Library Association tracks challenges to intellectual freedom throughout the year and advocates for "the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular." Each September, they promote intellectual freedom through Banned Books Week, and each year, they publish a list of the top 10 most challenged or banned books based on surveys and voluntary reports from libraries across the country.
